Sambung is a WhatsApp inbox that businesses use to talk to their customers. A business connects its own WhatsApp Business number, and its staff read and answer messages here. This page explains what Sambung stores, why, and how to have it deleted.

Who is responsible

Each business that uses Sambung decides what it does with its customers' messages and is responsible for them under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Macrotech stores and processes the messages for that business, on its instructions, and for no other purpose.

What we store

  • For staff: name, email address, a hashed password, their role, and which messages they sent.
  • For a business's customers: their WhatsApp number and profile name, the messages and files they exchange with the business, delivery and read receipts, and, when they came from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad, which ad it was.
  • For a connected number: the details Meta provides about it, and an access token, stored encrypted.
  • Technical records: sign-in attempts and the raw notifications Meta sends, kept for troubleshooting.

Why

  • To show each business its conversations and let its staff reply.
  • To send the messages and automatic replies the business has set up, through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform.
  • To pass new chats and replies to the business's own systems, when the business asks for that.
  • To keep accounts secure.

We don't sell this data, use it for advertising, or use customer messages to train AI models.

Where it is kept

Sambung runs on Vercel (Singapore region). Data is held in a PostgreSQL database in Singapore, and photos and files in private Vercel Blob storage, also in Singapore. Messages travel through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform, under Meta's own terms.

Who can see it

Only the staff a business adds to its team, and Macrotech staff when needed to run or fix the service. One business can never see another business's conversations.

How long

Conversations are kept for as long as the business uses Sambung. When a business leaves, or asks us to, we delete its data as described on the data deletion page.

Your choices

If you message a business through Sambung, reply STOP to stop its promotional messages. To see, correct or delete what a business holds about you, ask that business, or write to us at kumaresrao5@gmail.com and we'll pass your request on.
